We do not expect to provide a list of philosophy phenomena that will satisfy everyone. Throughout history, philosophers have each made their own choice as to which phenomena were most worth explaining.
In our view, a complete and coherent theory of philosophy would at least need to account for the following:
- Words work: the words we use have communicative and predictive value, by and large.
- Philosophical Babel: Philosophical arguments are often mutually contradictory, even when correctly formulated.
- Wholes are often more than the sum of their parts. Phenomena at lower levels of abstraction, enable phenomena at higher levels of abstraction, in such a way that the higher transcend the lower.
- Why it is that the universe is knowable, at least to a degree that enables us to function in it.
- How it is that you have a sense of self.
