Philosophy phenomena

We do not expect to provide a list of philosophy phenomena that will satisfy everyone. Throughout history, philosophers have each made their own choice as to which phenomena were most worth explaining.

In our view, a complete and coherent theory of philosophy would at least need to account for the following:

  1. Words work: the words we use have communicative and predictive value, by and large.
  2. Philosophical BabelPhilosophical arguments are often mutually contradictory, even when correctly formulated.
  3. Wholes are often more than the sum of their parts. Phenomena at lower levels of abstraction, enable phenomena at higher levels of abstraction, in such a way that the higher transcend the lower.
  4. Why it is that the universe is knowable, at least to a degree that enables us to function in it.
  5. How it is that you have a sense of self.
